Set Up Cd Storage Systems

Sorting your CD collection makes retrieval easier.

If you find yourself constantly searching for the CD you want to play, you could benefit from a well designed CD storage system. Many people have hundreds or even thousands of CDs around the house, and trying to find just one without some sort of filing system is very frustrating. Taking the time to sort through your CDs and store them properly will save you a lot of time and hassle in the long run. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Gather all the CDs you have around the home or office, including music CDs, data CDs, installation CDs and CDs you burned yourself. Decide whether you want to store all of your CDs together, or if you want to store the music and data CDs separately.

2. Sort through all your CDs and make a pile for each letter of the alphabet. When sorting music CDs you will need to decide whether to sort by the name of the band or the name of the album. Whichever option you choose, be sure to keep it consistent for your entire collection.

3. Count the total number of CDs you have, including both music and data CDs. Purchase CD shelving units with enough space to house those CDs plus the ones you expect to purchase in the future. Having an empty storage unit around gives you room for growth.

4. Fill the first CD shelving unit with the CDs from your collection, starting with the letter A and working down through the alphabet. Note the letter you stopped on when filling your first shelving unit, then label that shelving unit with the appropriate letter, i.e. "A-F." If you ran out of space in the middle of a letter, you might want to remove the CDs that start with that letter and move them to the next shelving unit. This gives you more room for future growth and makes it easier to find the CDs you want.

5. Place the next set of CDs on the shelving unit and label them with the letters they contain. Continue filling your shelving units until all CDs are stored in alphabetical order.
