Great Storage Solutions For A Laundry Room

If this is what your laundry room looks like, it's time to make some changes.

Few people truly enjoy doing laundry. However, the more organized your laundry room is, the easier it will be to do laundry, and the more pleasant the entire experience will be. Even if you've got an enormous household with tons of clothes to wash, there are still ways to make doing the laundry incredibly manageable. Does this Spark an idea?

Sorting System

Anyone with real experience at doing the laundry will tell you that sorting clothes properly is a crucial first step for a successful load. Tossing all clothes into one hamper creates more work for you when you have to do the laundry. A way to prevent this is to have a long shelf above the machines with several bins that you label clearly with signs that say things like: hand wash, whites, permanent press, dark colors, dry-clean only or cold wash. Have a bin just for clothes that need repair and a bin for clothes that you wish to donate to local shelters. These bins will prevent clothes from gravitating into a jumbled mess.

Antique-Inspired Furniture

Choice furniture pieces inspired by antiques such as armoires, breakfronts, cabinets, chests, or bookcases with glass doors will turn your laundry room from a utilitarian place of chores and labor to an aesthetically pleasing space. Select wood pieces that have a warmer shade such as cedar, oak or cherry. The appearance of these cabinets will take the drudgery out of doing laundry, and their compartments will help you organize. Many such pieces come with lots of compartments, drawers or cupboards perfect for storing laundry supplies such as detergents, bleaches, dryer sheets, an iron and related items.

Fold Out Pieces

Gadgets that fold out are an ingenious solution highly suitable for laundry rooms that want for space. For example, a classic fold-out piece is an ironing board. Installing the board in the wall helps stabilize the surface once you fold it out and get down to some ironing. When you're not ironing, the unwieldy board is safely tucked away in a place where you can't trip over it. Mount a collapsible drying rack to the wall as well so that when it's not in use, it's out of sight. Mount a fold-up folding surface that's at a perfect height for you to comfortably do some folding without stooping or straining. This surface will fold upwards on a hinge against the wall when you're not in need of it.
