Build A Lingerie Chest

Most women don't have enough space to properly hang and store their lingerie and other delicate garments. Build your own lingerie chest from an old piece of furniture, and free up some of your closet and dresser drawer space for other clothing items.

Instructions

1. Look around for an old chest of drawers or a used man's sweater chest. You can usually find an old, inexpensive piece of furniture that will work perfectly for your new lingerie chest with a few alterations. You could also purchase a chest on clearance, or an unfinished piece of furniture you could finish to match the rest of your bedroom decor.

2. Hollow out the chest by removing all the drawers or shelves from inside. You may want to keep the top or bottom drawer or shelf for smaller items such as nylons, bras or pantyhose. Remove the wood partitions that run across the chest, or secure a piece of wood or panel on each side to create a smooth finish.

3. Make or purchase a bar or rod for hanging delicate nightgowns and lingerie; just about anything will work. Secure it to the inside top of the chest, leaving enough room for the hangers to fit easily.

4. Consider using do-it-yourself closet organizers to partition your hollowed-out chest. You can purchase pieces, including a clothes bar and bins, to fit any area and create a more customized lingerie chest.

5. Finish your lingerie chest by securing brackets and attaching doors. You can purchase doors to fit, or build and finish the doors to match the chest. If you plan to use your lingerie chest in your dressing room, leave the chest open.
