Attach A Sliding Closet Door Rail To A Concrete Floor

Sliding closet doors, otherwise know as bypass doors, sometimes use full rails on the floor rather than a simple floor bracket. A concrete floor limits the type of fastener you can use to attach sliding closet door rail. Most concrete screws are not acceptable because the head of the screw raises too far in the rail and prevents the door from sliding properly. The best solution is to use standard Phillips screws with plastic anchors in the floor. The plastic anchors are available at home improvement centers. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Place the lower closet door rail on the floor and ensure it is plumb with the upper rail according to the manufacturers instructions. Mark the mounting holes that are in the center of the rail onto the floor with a pencil. Pull the rail out of the closet opening.

2. Drill holes at the marks in the floor with a masonry bit that is the same diameter as the plastic anchor. Drill each hole to a depth as long as the anchor.

3. Vacuum each hole to remove the concrete dust with a shop vacuum or household vacuum cleaner. This ensures the plastic anchors will fit into the holes snugly.

4. Push the plastic anchors into each of the pilot holes in the concrete floor. Tap the top of the anchors into the floor with a hammer until they are flush with the surface of the floor.

5. Position the closet rail into the opening, aligning the mounting holes with the tops of the anchors. Secure the rail to the floor with the retaining screws and Phillips screwdriver.
