Make A Homemade Purse Rack Easy

Make large purse racks for storing many purses.

If you notice a pile of purses building up in your closet, it's time to get yourself a purse rack. Purse racks keep your purses individually hung so that they do not get squashed by other, heavier bags and become misshapen. If you have open space behind a closet door or on one of your walls at home, you can construct a purse rack that will fit in the space and help keep your purses organized.

Instructions

1. Measure the dimensions of the area where you will be hanging the purse rack. Write down the dimensions, and bring them with you to the home improvement store. Find a piece of wood that matches the dimensions or that can be cut down to the right measurements.

2. Mark the dimensions of the rack on the plywood with a pencil, using the measuring tape as a guide. Saw the plywood at the markings to create a vertical or horizontal rack structure. You can also get the plywood cut to the appropriate size at the store.

3. Sand the wood with medium-grit sandpaper to shave off any rough edges and splinters.

4. Set the wood on the work surface. Run the measuring tape along the wood. Mark places where the purse hooks will hang along the length of the wood. Distance the hooks so that they are spaced 3 inches apart.

5. Drill pilot holes at the markings, and screw the hooks into the plywood rack.

6. Drill four holes into the wood, one hole at every corner.

7. Hold the plywood up to the wall or door that you are going to hang it from. The hooks are facing out towards you, and the flat side of the wood is up against the wall or door. With a pencil, place dots on the wall to show where the holes in the plywood are. Drill pilot holes in the wall at those spots.

8. Use the drill to screw in screws to connect the wood to the wall or door.
