Side Cabinet Tools

Tools used to install a side cabinet are not different than the tools used to install any other cabinet

Installing a side cabinet or corner cabinet utilizes the same tools as installing any other type of cabinet. The difference with installation is how the side cabinet is installed so it matches up with both cabinets on each adjoining wall. The side cabinet must be installed first to ensure that the height lines are equal on either wall, and the tools used to ensure this are important tools to own.

Laser Tape

A laser tape measures the distance of a wall by shooting a beam from an eye located on the tape measure. This laser line is visible to the naked eye and is auto-leveling to adjust for any shaking hands. Most laser tapes can make measurements in a 360 degree radius so all walls are measured at the same height. This is important when installing a side cabinet or corner cabinet.

Stud Finder

A stud finder is an important side cabinet tool used to determine where the wall studs are located on each adjoining wall. The side cabinet has to mount onto a stud so it can hold the weight of the objects placed inside the cabinet. Studs run vertically in the walls and are used to attach the sheet rock or drywall to when finishing a home. The stud is generally a two-inch by four-inch wood approximately eight feet long that runs from floor to ceiling. The stud is hidden behind the sheet rock; a stud finding tool is needed to find the location.

Handle on Demand Double

The handle on demand double is a tool used to lift and lower the side cabinet into place. The cabinet tool also comes in a demand single. The demand double has two suction cups while the demand single only has one suction cup. Side cabinets can be bulky and difficult to lift or held in place while attempting to mount the cabinet to the studs. This cabinet tool provides a handle so the side cabinet can be lifted and held in to place easier.

Basic Hand Tools

Every cabinet installer needs the basic hand tools to install cabinets, including side cabinets. These tools include screw gun, level, screwdrivers, angle grinder, planner and other associated construction tools. The screw gun or cordless drill is used to tighten the screws when mounting a side cabinet. The level is used to ensure the side cabinet is at an equal height and not slanted. A planner and angle grinder is used to smooth the edges of the side cabinet so a tight joint is made with the adjoining cabinets.
