Technique To Hang Sliding Closet Doors

Changing the look of a door can have a dramatic effect on the appearance of any room in your home. If you have a room with sliding closet doors, you can hang new doors to update the room's style or improve its function if the existing doors are damaged. The process of hanging sliding doors is simple, as the upper and lower tracks already exist, but it can take time to get the doors spaced correctly. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Position the sliding closet door into the opening of the door and set it down. Find a spot where you'll be able to lift the door straight up so it sits on the tracks above. If necessary, ask a family member to assist you.

2. Lift the door upward so its wheels sit in the track that's mounted to the top of the closet opening. Once each of the closet's wheels are in the track, you can let go of the door, as it will hang on its own.

3. Check the bottom track of the closet and see how big the gap is between this track and the bottom of the sliding door. Unless the bottom of the door happens to fit perfectly into the bottom track, you will need to make adjustments.

4. Use a screwdriver to adjust the mechanisms at each end of the closet door. Turning the screws one direction will extend the mechanisms, which will lower the bottom of the door. Turning the screws the opposite direction will condense the mechanisms to raise the door. Make the necessary adjustments until the bottom of the door can sit securely on the bottom track and the door can slide back and forth with ease.
