A bedroom without adequate storage can become crowded and cluttered. Having sizable closets and adequate shelves and drawers allows for a lot of storage. Bedroom storage can be utilitarian and barely noticeable, or you can use your imagination to combine storage with decoration and creative design. Does this Spark an idea?
Closets
Your bedroom closet is probably the place with the most storage space in your bedroom. A closet with a door is a necessity for a neat bedroom, because it enables you to pile all manner of things out of sight. A closet with a hanging bar and a shelf above it allows you to hang button-down shirts, dresses and slacks and to stack sweaters above them. The floor of the closet is the best place to keep shoes.
Shelves
Shelves can be installed along the wall of the closet for things that you want to keep organized but don't necessarily want to look at every day. You can also install shelves around your bedroom walls for holding books, framed photographs or other belongings. Shelves can be as simple as boards stacked on bricks or as elaborate as custom-built pieces made of hardwood with glass doors.
Drawers
Storage drawers can be built into the walls of the bedroom or be freestanding dressers. Drawers are best used for clothing items that don't hang easily and are small enough that they become a messed up jumble when put onto a shelf. Clothing and other items can be organized by type in different drawers so that you can access them quickly.
Under the Bed
When you're looking for places to store things in your bedroom, don't neglect the space under the bed. The easiest way to store things under the bed is to find a set of boxes that are short enough to fit in the space, label them clearly with a magic marker and line them up down the center of the bed. Placing the boxes at the center underneath the bed makes them invisible and prevents your bed from having a cluttered look.
