Sell Used Clothes For Cash

Sell your old clothes for cash.

The key to making money selling used clothes is presentation. Sellers should take care of any clothing (e.g. wash and iron) that they plan to present to customers. There are many venues available for selling your used clothes. You can choose to sell your used wear online using websites like eBay or Craigslist, or you can sell them to consignment shops.

Instructions

1. Create an eBay listing. Decide if you want to list each piece individually or as part of a group. Clothing of different sizes and for different sexes may sell more easily if you group it separately, since eBay customers search for clothing based on sex, size, and brand. Your ad on eBay should feature a clear picture and description of the brand and the condition of the clothing. Make sure that you iron the clothing before you take photos. Buyers usually make purchases with a credit card, but once the money is transfered to your account you can take out cash. Note that eBay charges listing fees per ad and other fees for extras such as including photos.

2. Go to Craigslist.com. Craigslist allows users to list used clothes in their "For Sale" section. You may either list an individual price for each piece of clothing and/or a group price. If you are negotiable on the price, you may want to include that information as well. Make sure to describe each piece in detail. If possible, include photos of every item. You may also create multiple listings if you have clothing of different sizes and for men and women. Make sure to include contact information such as a phone number. You can request that customers only pay with cash. There is no charge to sell on Craigslist.

3. Visit a consignment shop. Consignment shops are resale stores that sell clothing or other goods for customers. In exchange, the consignment shop gets a certain percent of the sale. This is especially convenient if you don't have time to sell the used clothing. Consignment shops also have their own customer base, so marketing and finding customers won't be required from you. Customers will also be able to try the clothing on, which will increase their level of comfort when it comes to purchasing the clothing. Make sure you understnad the terms of the agreement, such as the percentage you will be paid, administration fees, etc. You should also get the agreement in writing. Consignment shops will pay you by cash or check once the item has sold.

4. Sell your clothing to a resale shop. A resale shop buys used clothing in good condition, and resells it at a markup. In exchange, they pay you for the clothing or provide you credit which you can spend in the store. This is a great way to get instant cash for your used clothing. But since resale shops are buying the product up front, they generally are more picky about the brands, condition, and style of the clothing they purchase.

5. Have a garage sale. Garage sales are especially popular on the weekends. Make sure you create adequate signage from the main street to your house to direct a constant flow of customers. Avoid throwing your used clothing in a pile. Instead, hang, fold or display the clothing neatly. This will attract the customers' eye and make your clothing appear well-preserved. Make sure your clothing is properly priced. Garage sale customers will not have the advantage of trying the clothing on before they buy it, so the price has to be worth the risk of getting the clothing home and not liking it. Garage sales usually only conduct cash transactions.
