Design a closet that fit your personal needs.
Closets are an often overlooked area in the home. They are necessary to keep the house organized, clothes stored and other personal items out of view. Closets should not only store items you need to keep, but also help organize belongings and add value to your home. Does this Spark an idea?
Islands
Closet islands provide a flat surface on which to pack a suitcase, and iron and fold clothes. Some islands include storage space for clothing and velvet-lined drawers for jewelry.
Laundry Hampers
Tilt-out or pull-out hampers keep dirty clothes out of sight. A hamper is ideal for a closet that serves as a dressing area. Store a hamper in an island or inside a cabinet. A hamper on wheels is easily rolled out of sight.
Vertical Space
Store items vertically to make the most of space. Hooks in the ceiling can hold luggage. Shoes and handbags can be organized and contained with vertical storage units. A second, or even third closet rod if your closet is tall enough, will provide more space to hang clothing. Closet rods that tilt downward provide easier accessibility than stationery rods and can prevent the need for a step ladder.
Storage Seat
A bench with a removable seat provides extra space to store small items, such as throw pillows, books and magazines. An added bonus is that the fabric-covered seat cover can bring color or texture to a bland closet.
