Make A Closet Smell Fresh

A fresh-smelling closet is more inviting than one that smells like dirty clothes and shoes.

A closet is a confined area, normally closed off with a door. The lack of air circulation from windows or open doors keeps odors pent-up inside. Whether from stinky shoes, laundry hampers or other items, it's unpleasant to open the closet only to be greeted by stinky smells. To make a closet smell fresh you must remove the source of the odor and make sure the closet is clean before it can be deodorized. Masking the smell with air fresheners or sachets makes the closet smell nicer, but is only a temporary solution. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Clean all the compartments in the closet to remove odor-causing debris.

Vacuum the inside of the closet to remove dirt and debris that contribute toward odor. Empty shelves, drawers and other compartments to vacuum them, as well.

2. Combine 1 quart white vinegar and 1 quart warm water to make a cleansing and deodorizing solution. Dampen a cloth with the vinegar solution and clean the interior of the closet to get rid of stains and odors. Wipe down closet walls, shelves and other compartments then allow the surfaces to air dry completely.

3. Sprinkle baking soda over the closet floor and leave it overnight to deodorize the surface. Vacuum the baking soda from the floor the next morning.

4. Cinnamon is a natural odor absorber.

Cut an old nylon leg below the knee. Fill the foot area of the nylon with broken cinnamon sticks and 1/2 tsp. ground cloves. Knot the nylon at the top and hang or place it in the closet to add a fresh fragrance.
