Remove A Closet Door For More Space If Hanging Curtains

If your closet is filled to the brim with clothes and shoes, remodeling the closet may be the answer to create more room. Taking the door off removes one space restriction and gives you more freedom to position your belongings as you wish. Some people cover the closet entrance with a curtain instead of a door. If you go this route, remove the door carefully to avoid damaging the door frame. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Ask a friend to hold the door in place while you remove the screws from the hinges. This prevents the door from falling as the screws come out, which potentially damages the frame.

2. Loosen the screws from the bottom hinge with a screwdriver and pull them out. The top hinge helps keep the door balanced as you do this. Focus on the screws holding the door to the hinge. Worry about the screws in the door frame after the door is removed.

3. Repeat the procedure on the top hinge by unscrewing the screws that connect the hinge to the closet door.

4. Pull the door away from the hinges and lean it against a wall to prevent it from falling. Remove the hinges from the door frame by unscrewing them with the screwdriver now that the weight of the closet door isn't pulling down on them.

5. Repaint the door frame to help cover up the marks left from the removed hinges. The curtain will cover up the hinge marks from a distance, but a door frame that is uniform in color and overall appearance looks better.

6. Hang the curtains once the paint on the door frame is entirely dry so wet paint doesn't stain the curtains.
