Convert A Closet To Office Storage

A bedroom closet can easily be converted into an office storage space.

With more people working from home, guest bedrooms and playrooms are increasingly being converted to home offices. While it may be easy to envision how a bedroom can be transformed into an office, it may be less obvious to see how a bedroom closet can serve a professional purpose. However, with the right tools, you can turn an otherwise plain closet into a well-organized office storage place. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove the rod used for hanging clothes. If your closet has wire shelving, leave it in. If it does not, install some. Ideally, you want to have three shelving levels. The shelving should run along the entire closet, so that if you're standing in front of it, there will be shelving in front of you, to your left and to your right.

2. Place large baskets or milk crates along your shelving, with the opening facing you. This makes it easy for you to see what each crate holds without having to take it down to peer inside. Choose a type of container with a flat rim.

3. Stick a thin label along the top rim of your basket or crates with the name of the types of supplies that should go in each basket or crate, such as "envelopes," "printer paper," "pens and pencils" and so on.

4. Place your office supplies in your baskets or crates accordingly. Heavier supplies, such as reams of printer paper, should go along one of the lower shelves so you don't risk injury when lifting them out of their storage containers.

5. Put smaller supplies, such as paper clips, tacks and pens and pencils, in smaller baskets inside the labeled baskets or crates to keep them separated.

6. Place hanging file boxes along the floor of your closet to keep your important files handy. You can find these file boxes in cardboard or plastic, with folders that hang inside them to keep your documents organized.
