Paint Rubbermaid Plastic Storage Bins

Paint Rubbermaid plastic storage bins with spray paint.

Rubbermaid plastic storage bins serve a wide variety of purposes both inside and outside the home. With the many different styles and sizes of these bins, you can easily find a bin to fit every storage need. Due to the variety of bin sizes and shapes, people often use these bins for other creative projects as well. If you need to paint Rubbermaid plastic storage bins, use a spray paint especially formulated to adhere to plastic.

Instructions

1. Spread the newspaper in an outside area to create a workspace. Due to the paint odors and the possibility of mess, working outside to apply spray paint produces the best results.

2. Saturate a cleaning cloth with ammonia for a used Rubbermaid bin or with paint thinner for a new Rubbermaid bin. Wipe the entire surface of the storage bin thoroughly with either chemical to prepare it for painting. Allow the plastic bin to dry completely.

3. Shake the can of spray paint for at least two minutes and then remove the lid. Align the dots on the spray can (if necessary) to prepare to spray the paint.

4. Hold the spray can between 8 and 10 inches away from the storage bin.

5. Spray the spray paint evenly over the plastic surface of the bin using a side-to-side motion. Coat the entire bin with a thin layer of paint and allow it to dry for approximately one minute.

6. Apply a second coat of paint after the first coat dries, if you desire.

7. Allow the storage bin to dry after the final coat of paint for approximately one hour before handling the bin.
