Ideas For A Closet Door

Using fabric curtains is only one way to change the look of your closet.

The closet is one of the most used areas of your home, but one you probably don't think about often. If you have a well-organized closet, with all of your shoes and clothing carefully displayed, then you should show off that area. You can even highlight your closet with a few simple items you already have around your home. The next time you give guests a tour of your house, you'll take pleasure in the fact that you don't have the same boring closet doors as everyone else. Does this Spark an idea?

Fabric Doors

Cover your existing closet doors with fabric panels, rather than replacing the doors completely. The Do It Yourself website suggests picking a patterned or brightly colored fabric, although you also want to pick a color that coordinates with the rest of your room. Remove the closet doors first and wrap the fabric tightly around each piece. Secure in the back with a staple gun and return the doors to the closet.

Beaded Curtains

Replace your existing closet doors with a beaded curtain, or make your own. Measure pieces of rope the length of your door, adding a few extra inches for hanging. Tie a knot at the end of the rope to keep the beads from sliding off, then alternate between larger beads and smaller beads to create some sense of contrast. Hang the beaded ropes from a curtain rod on top of your closet, leaving an inch of space between each rope.

Curtains

Use regular curtains in combination with a curtain rod to create unique closet doors. Hang the curtain rods inside your closet, directly above the top of the closet. Run the curtains through the curtain rod and adjust. Tie off the curtains on either side when you want the closet open and keep pulled together when you want it closed. Alternatively, use a simple piece of fabric and thread shower curtain hooks through the top to attach the fabric to the curtain rod.

French Doors

French doors provide a more upscale and elegant look to your closet, and many companies make French doors appropriate for interior spaces. The doors have large windows inside that provide a look inside the space, which makes these doors better suited for organized closets. Your guests can see everything inside your closet when you use this type of door. Some companies also make French doors with adjustable blinds inside.
