Cool Linen Closet Ideas

Find cool ways to organize and store your linens.

In many homes, the linen closet becomes a catchall for the rest of the house. In addition to sheets, towels, pillowcases and comforters, you may store extra bathroom products, cleaning products and miscellaneous items in the closet. Cool linen closet ideas are meant to provide more organization to the space. Organize the linen closet, making specific places for everything you store inside. Does this Spark an idea?

Alternate Shelf Heights

Linen closets often have adjustable shelves, which let you vary the shelves for taller or smaller items. If your closet lacks this feature, install your own shelves. Use metal brackets, which pop out of attached pieces on the back wall and let you change the size of your shelves. Martha Stewart suggests adjusting shelves to a height of 12 inches for towels and 10 inches for sheets. Store comforters, blankets and larger items on the bottom shelves, making the shelf above flush with the top of the comforters. Group similar items together ahead of time, including table linens, bed linens and pillowcases. This makes it easier to determine the number of shelves you need for each type of item and set up the shelves to the right height.

Metal Shelf Dividers

Metal shelf dividers are available from home improvement stores, home d cor stores and stores specializing in home organization. The dividers feature a curved bottom, which slips underneath the bottom of your shelves. This holds the divider in place and keeps it from sliding around. Depending on the size of your shelves, you may have room for three or more dividers. Use the dividers for smaller items, like pillowcases, towels, bed sheets and table linens. If you store bathroom items in your linen closet, use smaller dividers to group similar items. Use one divider for cleaning products, a second divider for beauty products and additional dividers for other items.

Cool and Crisp Wicker Baskets

Wicker baskets are a simple way to organize your linen closet, especially if the closet is open or you let others access the space. Look for wicker baskets with a cream- or white-colored lining, which has a clean and crisp look. You may prefer using wicker baskets with a label on the front. This lets you identify what items go in each basket and helps keep the space organized. Arrange baskets on each shelf, storing similar items on each shelf. Keep sheets and pillowcases on one shelf, bathroom products on another shelf and table linens or lesser-used items on the bottom shelves.
