Paint A Closet With Dual Doors

Nowadays, many small closets are built long and narrow, so as to hold a long rod full of clothes and not much else. To ensure easy access to your fashionable apparel, the builder may have installed a pair of sliding doors on two separate tracks. To remove your garment of choice, all you need do is slide one of the doors halfway along the tracks and reach in. If you want to brighten up the color of your closet, you may want to apply fresh paint. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Painting The Closet

1. Remove all items from the closet and put them in a place where they won't be disturbed for the duration of the project, which will be at least 24 hours--longer if two coats of paint are needed. To gain access to the closet you will have to slide both doors completely to the right or completely to the left. That's how dual doors work. This is possible because one track is located in front of the other track.

2. Wipe all dirt off the walls and trim with a dry rag.

3. Wash the walls with a warm solution of soap and water. Go light on the soap; you only need a little bit. Clean every part of the closet, including the two doors and trim on the outside.

4. Rinse the walls thoroughly with clean, clear water and the industrial-sized sponge. Make sure you get all soap off the walls.

5. Paint the ceiling and walls of the closet first. You will have to cut in the walls and ceiling with a brush and apply more paint with the roller while the paint is still moist. Typically, most closets that have dual sliding duals are long and narrow, so you can easily access everything in the closet. This layout also facilitates painting the inside of the closet without removing the doors.

6. Use the larger trim brush to paint the trim with semi-gloss or high-gloss, latex enamel paint. Apply ample amounts of paint and stretch out your brush strokes to get a high-quality finish.

Painting The Dual Doors

7. Place the doors in the closed position and cover as much of the front of the two doors with the 2-inch paint brush. After you apply the paint to the front, check carefully for drips of paint on the doors.

8. Move the sliding door that is located in the front track 1/4 of the way across the opening, and then step inside the closet with some paint and a paint brush. Turn the closet light on and close the door. Paint the back side of both doors from inside the closet. Be sure that any paint fumes from the walls and ceiling have dispersed before you complete this task.

9. Push one door to the open position and paint the edges of both doors.

10. Move both doors to the opposite edge of the tracks and paint the other edge of each one.

11. Double-check each side of both doors for drips or bare spots.
