A well-organized closet makes getting ready in the morning much easier.
Over time, closets tend to degrade into chaos almost by themselves. If you have to shove clothes into your closet just to get the door closed, it's time for some organization. Organizing your closet is a task that many people dread, but when taken a step at a time it is not a challenging task. Does this Spark an idea?
Thin Your Wardrobe
Go through your closet and consider each piece of clothing critically. If you haven't worn it for a year or more, you can probably get rid of it. The same is true of damaged or stained clothing that you are unlikely to repair. If you have clothing that you have kept for sentimental reasons, be truthful with yourself about whether or not you are likely to ever wear it again. Donate old clothing to a thrift store.
Move Seasonal Clothes
Heavy coats have no use in the summertime, nor do short pants in the winter. Separate all of the seasonal clothing that you will not be wearing in the near future and store it elsewhere. Store these items in boxes located in your basement or attic. Fill modern vacuum-seal bags with clothing, then have the air sucked out, reducing their size and protecting the garments being stored.
Divide Into Zones
Divide the remaining clothes in your closet into zones based on color, purpose, how often they are worn or any other criteria that will help you to stay organized. For example, a man's closet can begin with T-shirts, then short-sleeve shirts, long-sleeve shirts, dress shirts and finally suits. There are no rules; set up your zones based on what will work for you. While you're reorganizing, get rid of mismatched hangers and purchase matching ones. This will help the closet look more organized.
Organize Accessories
Store jewelry, tie clips, watches, hair bands and other miscellaneous objects in transparent plastic bins with sliding drawers. These are available at most superstores and are not expensive. Select a category for each drawer and use a label maker to print a label for it. Find bins with larger drawers to store scarves, socks, gloves and other small items of clothing that would otherwise be scattered everywhere.
