Keep your foyer organized using a desk or table to store items.
When people come to your front door, the first thing they see is your entryway or foyer, which gives them an impression of what the rest of your home may look like. If it is the first time they have visited your home, that first impression can last. For instance, when you have a cluttered, disorganized foyer, it can be a sign of a cluttered home. Your foyer should welcome you and your guests and have a place for everything. Organizing your foyer need not take much time, since you will usually be working with a small room. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Write down with a pen and notebook what you dislike about your foyer, how you feel when you enter your home through your foyer, and whether everything in your foyer has a home.
2. Place a shoe tray in your foyer to organize your shoes. Put the tray beneath the hanging coats if you have a closet in your foyer; otherwise, use an attractive tray that also keeps your carpet free of dirt, mud and moisture. Remove any off-season shoes to another location to cut down on clutter.
3. Provide one spot to place your keys in your foyer. Designate a hook on the wall for your keys or place an attractive bowl on a table just for your keys. Look around your home for decorative bowl ideas rather than purchase one for your foyer, such as an antique bowl or an unusual-looking bowl you want to display.
4. Place a basket in your foyer for your mail. Select a basket size that allows you to fill it with just a week's worth of mail, which will keep paper clutter organized.
5. Assign an area in your foyer for a desk or a dresser. Use an existing desk or an old, unused dresser if you have one and paint or refinish the furniture to fit the decor of your foyer. The top of the desk or dresser can hold basic items such as a dish for loose change. Drawers can contain items you may need as you leave or enter your home, including chewing gum, mints, sunglasses and library books. Ensure you keep the surfaces clear of clutter.
6. Install hooks on your foyer wall to hang coats, umbrellas and scarves. Place a coat tree in your foyer as an alternative to hooks to provide a place for coats and serve as a decorative piece.
7. Position a large, attractive vase or container on the floor in a corner or next to a table in your foyer to hold your umbrellas.
8. Put a basket in another location of your home to hold your newspapers; otherwise, the newspaper buildup in your foyer becomes clutter.
9. Provide a container or a drawer to hold loose items you may need, such as gloves, earmuffs, hats and scarves.
