Make A Mudroom Bench

A power saw makes the job go faster.

A mudroom off the garage makes a good transition area from working in the yard to coming into the house. Dirty or wet clothes can be exchanged for clean ones, and dry footwear will keep dirt from tracking across interior floors. Having a bench to sit on while changing helps the process go more smoothly. A sturdy, simple mudroom bench can be made in less than 30 minutes with a few common tools. The bench side brackets, or end pieces, are made by a number of manufacturers and can be either plain or fancy. They are available at any hardware store. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure the available length of the bench area.

2. Cut the 2-inch by 4-inch boards to the proper length.

3. Slide the wood into the prepared slots on each side of the bench brackets.

4. Secure the wood to the side supports with wood screws driven into each 2-inch by 4-inch board.

5. Paint or stain the bench to match the decor.
