A vintage wardrobes is a chic and fashionable piece of furniture for the bedroom or living room, but you can bring flair and sophistication to a home office by revamping it into a computer armoire. Revamping your vintage wardrobe to house your computer will rely on arranging shelves or removing obstacles that may prevent a good fit for your computer. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Open your wardrobe and examine the placement of the existing shelves inside, if any. Measure your computer, then measure the armoire's open spaces to see if the computer will sit unimpeded on the shelf. Measure your server or hard drive and measure open spaces within the wardrobe to ensure that they will also fit.

2. Remove any shelves to make space for the computer and hard drive. Reinforce old shelving with 3/4-inch plywood measured to fit. Screw the plywood to the existing shelves with a screwdriver.

3. Remove the clothing rod from the armoire. Attach a drop-hinge platform to a shelf for a computer keyboard.

4. Create a power cord hole for power supply and cables. Choose a space in the armoire's wall for the placement of the hole and mark it with a pencil. Attach a large drill bit to a power drill, then drill a hole at least 2 inches in diameter, or large enough to pass the head of the cord through. Keep in mind that you may need a larger hole if you have several pieces of equipment that need to pass through the hole to the power supply.

5. Place your computer monitor on a shelf that is a comfortable height in relation to your office chair. Place your keyboard and mouse on the keyboard shelf. Place the hard drive and other peripherals, such as scanner, printer or fax machine, on the lowest shelf.
