Hang Rod Closet Organizers

Rod closet organizers turn a chaotic closet into an orderly one.

Hanger rod-style closet organizing systems allow you to hang all of your rods, shelves and cabinets from a single hanger bar mounted near the ceiling of your closet. This efficient and sturdy system makes it easier for homeowners to customize their closets to suit their exact requirements. Because the hanger is mounted into the top plate of the closet, it is very strong and can support the load. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove everything from the closet, including any existing shelves and rods. Fill holes in the walls with wood fill and scrape off the excess, using a 1-inch putty knife. If your closet is dirty, you may want to paint it while it is empty. This will make your new closet feel fresh.

2. Cut a hanger bar to the length of your closet wall with tin snips or a hacksaw. Position the hanger bar at the top of your closet wall so that the top of the hanger bar touches the ceiling. Screw long wood screws through the hanger bar into the upper sill (a wood stud running along the top of the wall behind the drywall).

3. Place shelf standards on either side of areas where you want to install shelves or cabinets. Use a stud finder to locate your studs. Use a level and draw light vertical lines on the wall indicating the studs. When possible, mount your shelf standards directly into studs. If no stud is located, use wall anchors and wood screws.

4. Clip cabinets into the shelf standards. Cut shelves, using bolt cutters, and cap the metal ends of the shelves with little rubber caps. Install shelf brackets and slide the shelves into the shelf hooks in the brackets.

5. Install rod brackets into the shelves where you want rods. Clip the rods into the brackets. Turn shelves upside down to create shoe racks.
