Closet Organizer Solutions

Adding items for storage in your closet can help reduce clutter.

Even if you're a pretty organized person, it can be a challenge to keep the closets in your home in order. If you're looking for a way to keep your closets tidy and make it easier to find things when you need them, it's best to employ organization tips that work for your lifestyle and closet space. Does this Spark an idea?

Size

If you're working with a relatively small closet, you can keep the space organized by only storing one type of clothing or item in it. For instance, if you have a small closet in the hallway, reserve it for holiday home decorations so that it won't become cluttered with other things. If you have a larger closet, keep the area orderly by grouping things into sections, i.e. winter coats in the back corner of the closet only, summer shoes on the second shelf only.

Types

It's a good idea to use a number of 'tools' or items to keep your closet organized. For instance, a shelf above the rack where you hang your clothes can be used to store belts or hats. Or, you can bring baskets or bins into the closet and label them with descriptions like 'casual shoes' or 'winter hats' to give your clothing items a specific position in the closet.

Considerations

It may also be a good idea to install hooks on the closet walls or door, so that you can hang the coats or jackets you wear most often in the closet without taking up shelf or clothing rack space. To free up floor space in the closet, a shoe rack hooked to the back of the closet door is ideal.
