Remodel A Narrow Linen Closet

A linen closet proves a valuable asset in any bathroom. Even a narrow linen closet provides some useful real estate for towels, washcloths and extra soaps. A linen closet remodel updates the closet and maximizes the amount of space you have available. Make a plan for the remodeling project before you begin the work. This ensures you create an orderly and functional space for storing items in your bathroom. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Assess the current setup of the bathroom linen closet. Determine what works in the closet and which things aren't functional. Note all of the aspects you want to change.

2. Remove all items from the linen closet. Sort through the contents to make sure all of the items belong in the closet. Extra items tend to accumulate in linen closets. When space is limited, it's important to keep only those items that belong in the space.

3. Wipe down the shelves with a damp cloth, especially if you plan to reuse them.

4. Determine whether the current shelves are sufficient. Decide if they are still in good enough shape to stay in the closet. Look at the height between each shelf. Also consider the number of shelves. If the wood is damaged, warped or otherwise unusable, cut new wood shelves to size using the old shelves as a guide.

5. Rearrange the shelves so the heights work better if you don't like the current layout. This might include adding additional shelves which you can cut to size from a board, removing current shelves or moving the current shelves higher or lower to make more or less space between them.

6. Add dividers on the shelves that hold towels. These dividers keep the towels in neat stacks keeping the linen closet organized. Organization is key in a small linen closet. You can purchase dividers at stores like The Container Store or make your own by installing wood pieces onto the shelves.

7. Add baskets on the shelves for smaller items. This is another simple organization tool for your linen closet remodel.

8. Assess the current doors on the linen closet. Determine how well they function and how they look. Give the doors a new coat of paint. Add new door hardware to give them an updated look.
