Beaches On Denarau Island

Situated in the Fiji Islands, Denarau is a small, 600-acre island that offers opportunities for kayaking, parasailing and swimming activities in Nadi Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The island has two beach areas -- northern and western -- and features upscale resorts in both areas. The resorts on Denarau Island own the majority of the island's beach areas, and they can only be used by resort guests. Some of the resorts arrange scuba diving tours for their guests.

Northern Beach Region

The northern beach region of Denarau Island faces Nadi Bay and is the closest beach to fishing and boating facilities at Port Denarau Marina. Denarau's northern beach area features hotels such as the Westin Denarau Island Resort, Sofitel Fiji Resort and Hilton Fiji Resort and Spa. Some hotels partner with local water sports companies with equipment for kayaking, parasailing and wind-surfing activities. For example, the Westin is connected with Watersports Fiji. All of the beach areas by hotels are for the exclusive use of guests. Nadi International Airport is nearby. The hotels on the northern beach region offer transportation to the airport.

Western Beach Area

Denarau Island's western beach region faces the Pacific Ocean and was commercialized before the northern area. The resorts on this side of the island include the Sheraton Fiji Resort, the longest-running resort on the island, and the Radisson Resort Fiji. The Sheraton Fiji Resort has a partnership with the Adrenalin Fiji water sports company, which offers guests opportunities for water-skiing, wave boarding and kayaking. Also, the Radisson provides its guests with chances for scuba diving tours. The northern part of Denarau Island's western beach area is exclusively used by the resort's guests; the resort provides beach chairs and umbrellas for its guests. Meanwhile, the southern end of the area consists of beach rental homes and private properties.

Denarau Island

The tropical Denarau Island consists of 600 acres and features an 18-hole championship golf course within five minutes of the island's northern and western beaches. The northeastern side of the island is home to Denarau Marina, which has fishing piers and boat docks. The marina is attached to Port Denarau, an open air shopping center with boutique shops and dining options, including Jack's Fashion Boutique and the only Hard Rock Cafe in the Fiji Islands. The mall also hosts events throughout the year and offers entertainment from its in-house performance group, Maurea Entertainers; attendance to all events and performances is free of charge.
