Home Storage Ideas For Office And Kitchen

Storage ideas work in both the kitchen and office.

A disorganized home provides a disservice to you and your loved ones. When you have a large amount of clutter around the house, you can't find what you need, when you need it, which is especially a problem in the home office where you need access to paperwork and files. It also presents a problem in your kitchen because you can't find the right pans, seasonings or other food needed to make a specific dish. Home storage ideas provide functional ways to store items in both the kitchen and office. Does this Spark an idea?

Lazy Susan

A common storage container for the kitchen is a rotating rack, known as a lazy Susan, which consists of a round wood or plastic piece placed on a revolving bottom rack. When you spin the rack, you gain quick access to items hidden in the back. Use this type of organizer in areas where you can't typically see the back of the shelf or cabinet. In the office, use the lazy Susan to store boxes of staples, extra printer ink cartridges and other smaller items that you use frequently. Organize canned goods, spices, jars of seasoning or even baking supplies on a lazy Susan in the kitchen.

Cabinets and Pegboards

Instead of decorating the walls with framed photos, posters and other decorative items, use the space for more storage. Add cabinets or cupboards to the office, giving each cabinet its own use. Reserve one cabinet for extra office supplies, another for paperwork and one for miscellaneous items. In the kitchen, use shelves that have hooks or pegs attached to the bottom. Display old aprons on the pegs to add some color to the kitchen. Adding a pegboard rack will add more space to either the kitchen or office. When you hang items on the pegboard, outline the shape of the item with a marker to make identifying what goes where on the rack easier.

Filing Cabinets and Storage Containers

A file cabinet adds storage to either a kitchen or office. Use a file cabinet in the kitchen to organize cookbooks, old recipes and even extra potholders or washcloths. Organize bills, tax returns and other important paper documents with a file cabinet in the office. Small plastic storage containers also help you stay organize. Label the outside of each container, listing the contents inside. Store the containers on a bookshelf or in a large drawer.
