Installation Instructions For A Closetmaid

Wire shelving is among the most popular used in closets.

Closetmaid products work well for organizing your closet space. Because modern closets often require more than just the standard closet shelf of days gone by, Closetmaid offers accessories needed to make your closet space more useful. Standard kits are available for reach-in closets as well as walk-in closets. You can also purchase standard lengths of shelving and cut them to fit your own design. Installation is easier if you have some previous experience with bolt cutters and power tools, such as a drill. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Locate the studs in the wall or walls where the Closetmaid shelving installs with a stud finder and mark them accordingly. Measure up from the floor and make a mark on one wall at the desired height.

2. Place a carpenter's level horizontally on the wall so that the top edge of it is on the mark you just made for the desired height of the Closetmaid. Draw a faint line on the wall from corner to corner. This line helps you keep the shelving level during installation.

3. Hold one of the drywall clips against the wall and over one of the studs. Put the top edge of the clip even with the line. Draw the screw hole on the wall, remove the drywall clip and drill a pilot hole into the stud with the 1/16-inch drill bit.

4. Secure the drywall clip to the wall through the pilot hole with the screw provided with the Closetmaid shelving. Repeat this process for each drywall clip. Install one clip per stud.

5. Measure the distance between the sidewalls of the closet. Subtract 1/2 inch from the measurement and cut a piece of the Closetmaid shelving to that length with bolt cutters. Put end caps on each wire you cut and place a sidewall bracket on the ends of the shelf at the front.

6. Insert the back of the shelving into the clips installed on the wall. Hold the shelf up while placing a torpedo level on top of the shelf. When the shelf is level, mark the wall for the screw holes in the sidewall brackets.

7. Mark the screw holes on the wall with a pencil, then and lower shelf back down. Drill pilot holes for the drywall anchors and insert them into the holes. Hold the shelf back up again and align the bracket screw holes with the pilot holes and secure the brackets to the wall with the provided screws.
