Organize your closets using a few simple items.
If you have an unruly, overstuffed closet, it may be time to start organizing. Organizing your closet is time-consuming, but it does not have to be expensive. Use storage containers you already have or buy a few new ones to keep clutter contained. Use your creativity and look at objects in your house in a different way; they could become useful vessels for keeping socks, ties, belts and other items orderly in your closet. Does this Spark an idea?
Photo Storage Boxes
Purchase five to 10 photo storage boxes from a local craft store. These boxes are inexpensive and can be used to attractively store a wide variety of closet objects. Place shoes, rolled belts, folded ties, scarves and even hosiery or socks in these storage boxes. Stack them on shelves in your closet. Photo storage boxes often have a metal frame on the outside of the box where you can slip in a paper label identifying the contents.
Book Cases
Consider moving a book case into your closet. Set the book case against the back or side wall. This provides additional shelving for you to set storage bins, boxes and baskets. You can also place folded clothing, stacked ball caps or shoes on the shelves.
Hooks
Purchase several sets of clothing or robe hooks from a salvage store in your area. You can mix and match the hardware for charm. Install several hooks on the back of your closet doors, on the inside walls and on the outside of the doors. Use the hooks to hang coats, belts, winter scarves, head wraps and robes.
Hanging Storage
Buy a set of hanging storage "drawers" or "shelves." These hanging fabric organizers attach to the clothing pole in the closet. You can use them for shoes, folded sweaters and shirts and even accessories such as clutches and purses. The organizers often come with hangers or attach to the clothing pole with a Velcro-like attachment.
