Remove Closetmaid Shelving Anchors

ClosetMaid shelves are one way to gain space in your closet. The units include a head bracket and hanging rails that secure to the rear wall. Although it is ideal to mount the hang bracket and rails into studs, most often people must use wall anchors, because there is nothing behind the wall for a mounting screw to bite into. When removing the ClosetMaid shelving system, it is necessary to remove the anchors in the wall. Removing ClosetMaid shelving anchors depends on the type of anchors you have in the wall. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Dismantle the shelves from the shelf brackets. Unhook the shelf brackets from the hanging tracks on the wall.

2. Turn each of the securing screws counterclockwise with a Phillips-head screwdriver. If you have plastic anchors in the wall, the screw will completely come out, much like if you were removing the screw from a stud.

3. Pull the screw head toward you with one hand while continuing to remove it with the screwdriver, if your anchors are toggles. Pulling the screw towards you maintains pressure on the toggle wings against the inside of the wall, preventing them from turning with the screws. The toggle wings will fall behind the wall once you remove the screw completely.

4. Thread a larger diameter screw into the plastic anchor, if you have the plastic anchors instead of toggles. Grab the head of the screw with a pair of pliers, and pull the screw toward you. The screw will pull the plastic anchor out of the wall.
