Most playrooms are over run with toys, games and other kid items. Playroom storage doesn't have to be an expensive proposition, however. A jumble of toys and odds and ends can be neatly stored in inexpensive solutions that not only look attractive but are functional and safe as well. Many storage options can already be found in your home and moved to the playroom as needed.
Bookshelves or Shelving
Bookshelves work well as storage in playrooms.
Bookshelves make ideal storage solutions for playroom areas. Ready-to-assemble bookshelves can be purchased at most mass market retailers and are built in minutes. Place a few of these bookshelves along one long wall to create a bank of storage. Secure the bookshelves to the walls with a safety bracket to prevent the bookshelf from toppling over.
Build shelves with brackets on walls to create even more storage options. These shelves range from a faux wood finish to painted white and coordinate well with most playrooms. Install at heights that are reachable to youngsters and adjust upward as children grow.
Baskets
Use baskets for playroom storage.
Baskets of all shapes and sizes are cheap solutions for playroom storage. Pull baskets from various spots in your home, and fill them with small toy pieces, such as dolls, building blocks or even paint supplies. Baskets with lids help to contain small pieces while open, larger baskets can sit on the floor and overflow with stuffed animals. See that the baskets have no sharp edges or jutting pieces of rattan or straw. Stack matching square rattan baskets on shelves for a uniform look and organization. Hang baskets on the walls for storage of lightweight coats, umbrellas and shoes.
Plastic Tubs or Bins

All types of plastic storage containers are available for various storage problems. Plastic round tubs with rope handles in bright colors like red and blue work well in playrooms and safely hold all manner of toys. Many square plastic containers can be stacked and hold smaller pieces of puzzles or art supplies. These containers stack neatly into shelving or simply sit on the floor. Plastic milk crates work well for holding stuffed animals along with books and boxed items. Milk crates of this type may be stacked to create more floor space. A benefit of plastic storage is that it can be cleaned easily with soap and water.
