Make A Bedroom Into A Walkin Closet

A conversion to a walk-in closet can be done with home tools.

A walk-in closet offers many advantages to those who have a larger than average wardrobe. It allows easier access to multiple styles of clothing and accessories, and keeps the clothing from being rumpled and crushed. A spare bedroom is easily converted into a walk-in closet with some shelving units and other material. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Paint the room a neutral color so the light reflection from the walls and ceiling does not give a distorted look to the clothes that you pick out.

2. Hang a ceiling light strong enough to cover the entire room with hi-intensity lighting. Choosing a dark blue sock and a black sock to wear to the office because of poor lighting will certainly get you noticed.

3. Install wire frame hanging racks on two to three sides of the room. Additional options include specialized racks for hanging pants, ties and belts. Screw the supporting structure into the wall studs, otherwise the weight of the clothes or the material you put on top of the rack can pull the rack out of the drywall.

4. Install a waist high wire frame shelf for shoe storage. If necessary, stack multiple shelves up the wall starting at knee height and ending at chest height.

5. Place "his and hers" chests of drawers along the open wall, with a full-length mirror between them. An option is to include a vanity for putting on makeup. It's important that lighting be adequate around the vanity.
