Store Off Season Clothing

Storing your off season clothing needs to be done with care to keep them in good condition. Many people do not have room in their closets to leave them out, nor do they want to rummage through winter clothes in the summer when looking for something to wear. By storing the off season clothing, free space can be opened up and your closet can be organized easily. If they are clothes you want to keep, storing them in a clean, dry place and in an organized fashion is key, Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Launder or wash all clothes prior to storing. This will include any that need to be dry cleaned, or laundered. Be sure to read the care instructions. Washing according to the instructions will help your clothes keep their shape and color, ultimately lasting longer.

2. Fold and put clothing in large plastic bins. Make sure these have the lock tight lids to seal them. Cardboard boxes are easily ruined by moisture and/or mice, so plastic bins are a must.

3. Add dryer sheets to each bin. Put a couple in each bin. Mix one within the middle of the clothes, and lay one on top. These will help the clothes smell fresh. This will also lessen that smell that clothes can take on after being stored for any length of time.

4. Label the bins with either printed labels, or just tape pieces of paper to the bins to describe what is in each one. If you are storing other family members clothes at the same time, make sure to put everyone's names on theirs. This will make it easier to find them when unpacking during the next season. This is also when you want to label if anything special is in the bins, such as "Leather Coat".

5. Store the bins in a clean, dry place. Even though they are sealed to keep out dirt and moisture, it is still best to store them somewhere clean and dry. If you have a spare closet, or a dry corner of the basement that would work better than a dusty attic.
