Installing a closet can make a handy person the hero of the day. This project can be done in one weekend with careful planning. Building a closet can lead to a better organized house and allow you to easily find your stuff. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Establish the size and design of the desired closet. For example, the swing of the door entry, the amount of space needed to hang your clothes and the amount of shelf space desired. It may be difficult to install shelving or closet rods where the door swings in and still provide adequate entry access.

2. Measure to determine how much material you will need and what kind of material.

3. Go to the store and purchase materials needed for the project.

4. Draw the closet system on the closet wall in pencil before you begin assembly. This will ensure that your layout will work. Use a stud finder to determine where the studs are in the wall.

5. Use a chop saw to cut your materials to desired dimensions.

6. Plug in your compressor, air hose and air gun, loaded with 1?- to 2-inch brad nails.

7. Install all the 1-by-4 boards on the wall ensuring that you nail them to each stud that has been marked.

8. Cut shelf material to design and nail to 1-by-4 stringers using 1?-inch brad nails.

9. Screw the closet rod cup holders into the 1-by-4 side stringers. This will build the support for the shelves and the closet rods.

10. Trim closet rod to desired length and install into cup holders.

11. Mount closet rod support brackets. Leave no more than 3 feet between supports. When installing these brackets use 1?-inch screws.

12. Organize the closet with your stuff.
