Small Space Bedroom Shelving Ideas

Shelves can be built into a wall to increase needed space.

Whether it is a matter of deciding design the space or removing the clutter that has built up over the years, small bedrooms can be a hassle. Building shelves in your walls, called recessed shelving, is a way to provide you with more space without imposing on the limited space you have. Does this Spark an idea?

Clothing

Instead of having a dresser or chest of drawers, use shelving to store clothing. If you are able to remodel your walls, consider building the shelves into the actual walls. This helps dramatically with the amount of space that you have and allows you to place other necessities in your room. Another benefit of recessed shelves for clothing is that you can use the space in your closet for storage of bulkier items.

Books

If you have a lot of books -- whether school books or books that you like to read for leisure -- keeping them in boxes creates unnecessary clutter and is inconvenient if you have to access them often. Take advantage of recessed shelves by using them as a miniature library.

Entertainment

Recessed shelves are also useful for entertainment and ideal for placement of a flat-screen television. When choosing the place to hang your television, make sure that this is where you want the television permanently. Carve the shelves around the television to hold the DVD player; cable or satellite box; DVDs; and speakers. This area can also be designed in an abstract manner with the shelves sporadically placed in the wall.
