Make A Feminine Closet

Moving in? Lucky you. No clutter stands between you and your makeover.

If you're fastidious about organization and interior design throughout your home, there's no reason not to take it a step further -- all the way to your closet. Even the smallest wardrobe can be revamped to make it attractive and storage friendly, and if you love every space in your personal domain to reflect a feminine vibe, you'll be able to pull that off easily with a little time and attention to detail that reflects your unique style. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove everything from the closet so you're able to assess the amount of space within which you can work. If you have built-in shelves, take them out as well. Your goal is to determine whether a reconfiguration of the interior space is possible to create a space that's efficient, organized and also attractive to the eye.

2. Paint the interior of the closet. Your idea of feminine may be soft pink, white or any of the colors that are currently trendy. Lavender and apple green can be good choices, but be cautious not to paint the interior of your closet in a shade that clashes with your room color. Don't forget to repaint the shelves if you plan to return them to the closet after your makeover.

3. Hang an attractive lighting fixture. If you have more imagination than money, you can always cover that single light bulb with a small paper lantern cover (be sure not to touch the bulb) or a ceiling sconce that replicates a Tiffany glass treasure unearthed at a resale shop. Replace a bare bones string or chain with ribbon or a decorative cord. Think about rope lighting -- these romantic lengths of lights can illuminate the entire closet expanse with a warm glow.

4. Purchase an easy-to-install racking system for your closet from any closet outfitter and set up the unit so it organizes and houses everything from folded clothing to shoes. If your budget stretches that far, hire a carpenter to undertake the project. Once you've completed the install, place feminine, scented shelving paper on all of the surfaces.

5. Order a set of satin-covered hangers for your wardrobe. They're not as pricey as you think and packs of 10 are even available from national discount and big box stores. Not only will your dresses and tops hang beautifully, but by replacing all of those mismatched plastic and metal hangers, you'll add instant femininity to the interior. If your door handle needs a boost, replace it with an ornate new one.

6. Hang a full-sized mirror on the inside of your closet door if it's located in an area that allows you to pull back the door to the wall. Otherwise, install the mirror on the outside of the door -- but don't waste the interior door space. Mount a series of feminine decorative hooks on the door's interior to display your scarves, purses and costume jewelry and keep them easily within reach.
