Fresh Coat of Bedroom Paint

1. Remove any nails, tacks, or staples from the bedroom walls. Fill nail holes with filler putty using a putty knife.

2. Cover the base board and any trim pieces around doors and windows using painter's tape.

3. Decide upon a paint finish, brand, and colors by talking with a paint expert and viewing color swatches.

4. Use a 1-2" trim brush to apply paint in tight corners and to cut in next to trim pieces.

5. Roll large areas of the walls and ceiling using a standard sized roller. Peel off tape and paint any trim pieces using the small trim brush.

Remove the Light Fixture

6. At the breaker box, flip the circuit off that is supplying the bedroom light. Turn on the light switch to make sure the power is dead.

7. Remove the outer light globe carefully and any light bulbs.

8. Unscrew the housing cover closest to the ceiling using a screwdriver to expose the wires inside.

9. Twist off the wire caps and pull any connected wires apart. Place the wire caps back over the ends of the wires protruding from the ceiling as a safety precaution.

10. While supporting the light with one hand, remove the mounting screws that are securing the light fixture to the electrical box in the ceiling until it is free.

Install a New Light Fixture

11. Following the instructions that came with the new light fixture, assembly the light accordingly and mount it to the ceiling in the same manner the old light came down.

12. Twist the wires together with wire caps according to the wire schematic chart that came with the light.

13. Close the housing cover and secure properly making sure there are no electrical wires sticking out or being pinched.

14. Place a light bulb in the socket and flip the circuit breaker back on. Test the light by flipping the light switch and make any adjustments needed.

15. Place the glass globe over the bulb and hand-tighten the finger nuts carefully so the globe does not crack.
