Adequate bedroom storage is a critical issue in many homes, whether you are considering a child's room or the master bedroom. Most of us keep not only clothing in the bedroom, but also books, hobby supplies or office items. Making your own bedroom storage is one option to cut costs and keep your living space orderly, tidy and organized. Add bedroom storage by using unused space in a neat an orderly way, particularly the space under the bed.

Build Bedroom Storage
1. Determine the desired size for your under-bed storage bins. If you have a twin size bed, consider 3 bins, each 2 feet wide by 3 feet long. For a full size bed, you may want to make 6 bins, each 2 feet wide by 2 feet long. Your bins can be 6 inches to 8 inches high, depending upon the height of your casters and your bed. If your bed is quite tall, you may be able to opt for a higher under-bed storage design.
2. Install purchased bed risers on your bed. These are quite inexpensive and will allow you substantially more storage space. Measure the space you now have available and adjust your design if needed.
3. Cut your plywood into the appropriate dimensions. Bedroom storage under a twin size bed can be 2 feet by 3 feet or 3 feet by 3 feet as you prefer, depending upon the number of bedroom storage boxes you plan to make. Cut the bottom base to the desired size for your storage bin. Cut pieces for both the short and long sides as needed. A 3 feet by 3 feet bedroom storage bin will require one piece cut 3 feet by 3 feet, two pieces cut to 3 feet by 8 inches and 2 pieces cut to 34 1/2 inches by 8 inches to allow space for joining the sides together.
4. Assemble your bedroom storage bin using wood glue and wood screws. Be sure that all corners are secure and square before attaching the base of the bedroom storage bin. Attach the bottom panel of your under-bed storage bin.
5. Sand your bedroom storage bin thoroughly. This is especially important if you will be using it to hold clothing or delicate items. Apply stain or paint if desired. Use a wipe on or paint on polyurethane to protect the wood and keep a clean finish on your under-bed storage bin.
6. Pre-drill holes and screw casters into place on your bins. Place one caster at each corner of your new bedroom storage bin.
7. Fill your bedroom storage bins with clothing, hobby supplies or other items.
