Craft Closet Ideas

Design a closet with space for all your craft tools and supplies.

You don't need to be a craftsman or artist to create a well-appointed closet environment for supplies. Whether you need to store office supplies, scrap-booking tools or arts and crafts, there are many different ways to make smart use of closet space. Use items you already have around the house in clever ways to create a well-organized craft closet. Does this Spark an idea?

Convert an Armoire

Convert an armoire into a functional closet to create storage space for craft or office supplies. A standard armoire will have multiple shelves already built into the frame. Take one of these shelves out to make room for a row of file or magazine holders. Secure a row of mini drawers to the bottom of the shelf above the magazine holders. You can also choose to label individual drawers or shelving depending on the materials they contain. Now your beautiful armoire doubles as décor for your home and storage for your craft tools.

Walk-in Craft Closet

Turn a walk-in closet into a full service craft room. Arrange the walk-in closet with two rows of shelving near the height of the ceiling. You can then stack medium size plastic storage containers in a row across the width of the shelving. The shelving provides ample storage above while leaving room below for a desk the length of the closet. Your storage space now doubles as a workspace for your crafts.

Labeled Containers

Even the tiniest of closets can be organized to utilize space. It is as simple as developing a container labeling system. Labeled containers are practical since you can organize supplies by type and stack the different containers. Use clear containers for added convenience so that you can see what materials are contained in each of the bins.
