A portable wardrobe gives you more space to hang your clothes.
Portable wardrobes are typically freestanding. They are made up of a fabric-covered framework, have a door that is open and closed by a zipper and are equipped with a dowel for hanging clothing. Many people use portable wardrobes when they don't have enough room in their closets. If you are interested in elevating your portable wardrobe to save floor space, it can be rigged for hanging by adding grommets. The grommets will allow you to hang the wardrobe from the ceiling with hooks and chains. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Add curtain grommets at the four top corners of the wardrobe. Place a grommet at one corner and trace the interior circle with a marker. Cut out the circle with scissors. Place one half of the grommet around one side of the hole and the other half around the back side of the hole. Place the grommets on a wooden block. Place a grommet setter on top of the grommets. Hit the back of the grommet setter with a mallet to lock the two grommet halves together. Repeat for the other three grommets.
2. Affix hooks into the ceiling where you want to hang the wardrobe. Arrange the ceiling hooks in a square formation, spacing them at points equivalent to the spacing of the grommets. Bore pilot holes into a ceiling joist or through the drywall, using a drill. Use ceiling bolts with toggle bolts if you are not inserting the hooks into ceiling joists. A toggle bolt is inserted through the hole in the ceiling, then its supports arms are opened. The arms will anchor the hook from the opposite side of the drywall. Screw the hooks into the joists or toggle bolts by hand.
3. Insert ceiling hooks through the grommets on the wardrobe. Push the hooks through the grommets from inside the wardrobe. Use ceiling hooks with flanged bottoms so they will catch on the grommets.
4. Connect equal lengths of lamp chain to the hooks on top of the wardrobe. Attach the chains to the ceiling hooks.
