An entertainment closet is the place where you store all of your media-related components and gadgets. It is the hub of your entertainment system, where you set up all of your components to work together to maximize your entertainment experience. If you are planning to include an entertainment closet in your home, there are a few things to consider while in the planning stages. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Determine your entertainment needs. Decide what you will be housing in your entertainment closet. If you have limited space, consider which components can be stored somewhere else or even replaced with another component that can do multiple jobs.
2. Plan for ventilation. Your media closet will get warm and that is not good for your components. A good fan can cool the closet. As a general rule, a fan should provide 9 CFM per 100 watts of electronic gear. Assume that you will only use about 80% of the wattage capacity for most components since you will rarely be using them at max capacity.
3. Choose a media rack. You will have a lot of selections in media racks. If possible, choose one that has shelves on rails so they can be pulled out when you need to rearrange components or cables. Make sure you have enough shelves to add components if necessary. Measure to make sure the rack will fit in your closet and will accommodate your components.
4. Consider your cables. If you plan to rearrange and switch things out often, you will need to get to the back of the components easily. If the closet backs to another room in the house, consider adding a door in that room so you can get to your gear more easily.
5. Pick out a door. Glass doors work well to accommodate remotes. However, you can use a master remote and add a sensor to the front of your television or cabinet. Make sure that the door you choose does not seal too tightly. You want to allow some ventilation to help the fan keep the temperature down inside the closet.
