Maintain Cedar Closets

Cedar closets prevent moths from invading your closet.

A cedar closet is used to keep moths out of clothes, but over time the scent of the oil can fade and become less effective. If you notice that your cedar closet has lost its scent, and therefore its effectiveness, a small amount of maintenance is necessary. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Open windows to ensure proper ventilation.

2. Put on a dusk mask. Cedar dust is an irritant and can cause respiratory problems if it gets into your mouth or nose.

3. Sand the interior of your closet lightly with fine-grain sand paper. Sanding releases the aromatic oils in the wood that repel moths. You can also use the opportunity to sand out any rough spots.

4. Wipe the walls clean with tack cloth to remove any dust.

5. Apply a small amount of cedar oil to a clean cloth. Rub oil into the cedar wood using the cloth. This gives the wood a smoother finish and adds to the scent of cedar in the closet.
