File Cabinet Specifications

File cabinets are office organizers that allow businesses to keep track of important paperwork. They can be used to house paper files or heavy binders and books. The compact design of file cabinets makes them convenient to store in cubicles, large offices or home environments.

Drawers

File cabinets have drawers that slide out so users have easy access to the documents they need to retrieve. Cabinet drawers are positioned on rollers, which allow the drawers to move in and out smoothly on the roller track.

Size

File cabinets come in a variety of sizes. Some are stacked tall with four or five cabinet units, while others can be shorter and longer. Standard cabinet drawers are large enough to store letter-sized paper documents, but specialty cabinets exist to provide storage for legal-sized documents as well.

Material

The frames and drawers of file cabinets are most commonly made out of metals. File cabinets are also available in wood, plastic and glass. Some cabinets are made out of materials that are fireproof, which protects the safety of documents from fire damage.

Base

The base of file cabinets can either have legs, wheels or nothing at all. Some cabinets sit flush against the floor. Having wheels on a file cabinet abets transportability, which is convenient for medical or legal offices.
