Destroy Floppy Disks

Destroy a floppy disk by making the magnetic floppy inside the case unusable.

Floppy disks have largely been replaced by USB flash memory, external hard drives and cloud computing servers. Some companies and individuals still use floppy disks to store old information, but the fact that only a small amount of data can be stored on a floppy disk makes this an inefficient storage solution. If you've decided it's time to upgrade to a modern storage solution and you no longer need your floppy disks, you'll want to make sure that no one can read your data when you dispose of the old disks. Breaking the outer case and destroying the magnetic floppy disk can be accomplished with a typical paper shredder.

Instructions

1. Put on the rubber gloves.

2. Place the corner of the floppy disk in the pliers and twist the corner of the plastic case until it breaks.

3. Wedge your fingers between the split opening in the case and pry the two halves of the case apart to expose the magnetic disk within.

4. Run the magnetic disk through the paper shredder and dispose of the remnants.
