Make Your Closet Cool

Give your closet a cool and fresh look.

The closet is one of the most important areas in your home. Not only does it contain clothing, shoes and accessories, but also items that you use less frequently. You may store out-of-season clothing, holiday decorations, bedding and other linens. All of these items in your closet can result in one large mess that can make it hard to find what you need when you need it. Make your closet cool by adding organizers that change the overall style of your space. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Place a storage bench along one wall if your closet is large enough for one. Store accessories and jewelry in the area underneath the cushion. Use the seat for putting on shoes and picking out accessories in the closet.

2. Hang an over the door shoe organizer on one wall of the closet. The organizer contains small plastic pockets that are suitable for shoes and other accessories, including jewelry, scarves and rolled ties. The clear plastic lets you see what's inside each pocket.

3. Arrange cube shelving along the back wall of the closet. Place the fabric bins inside the shelves. The cubes have a modern feel, while the fabric bins keep your clutter out of sight. Use the bins as you would a dresser, filling each one with accessories or folded clothes.

4. Replace the metal and plastic hangers in your closet with wood hangers and padded hangers. Hang delicate fabrics, like silk, on the padded hangers. Organize your clothes based on color, creating a rainbow effect in the closet.

5. Cutback on the clutter by donating or selling anything you haven't worn in the last year. The more clothing you keep on hand, the more cluttered the closet looks.
