Make Things Out Of Wire Coat Hangers

Create crafts from wire clothes hangers.

Wire hangers are in almost every household. If you use the dry cleaners, you get more every week. Hangers have become a piece to use for crafting. You can make many things from them, including items such as mobiles, dream catchers, Christmas trees and gifts. Crafting with them is a way to re-use, which makes this a green action. You can re-purpose hangers to help keep them out of the dumps. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Wire Hanger Christmas Tree

1. Wrap your favorite color tinsel on your hanger tree.

Bring 6 wire hangers to your work table. Lay one hanger on the other in opposite directions with the hanger C hooks facing inward and down. The top corners should be touching, and the C hooks should be touching the inside bottom of the other hanger. Tape the top corners together with electrical tape, and tape the C hooks to the inside bottom of the opposite hanger.

2. Electrical tape is strong and will hold your tree together.

Make two more sets of hangers like this making three sets of two hangers. Put the second set of hangers through the first with the top taped areas touching. Inset the third set into the center opening of the first two sets. Space the three sets of hangers evenly to create a cone shape. Tape the top of the six hangers together with electrical tape to make the top of the tree. It will now stand by itself.

3. Wrap white or colored lights on your hanger tree.

Wind a 50-light strand of Christmas lights from the top down around the hangers evenly, taping them in place. Apply a tinsel garland over the lights starting from the bottom and wind around the hangers in circles covering them completely. Butt the tinsel right next to the last strand so it is solid tinsel. Tape as you go, hiding the tape under the tinsel. Plug the tree in and enjoy.

Wire Hanger Mobile

4. Get a wire hanger out of your closet to make a mobile. Fold four pieces of 4-by-4-inch card stock in half. Choose your favorite colors of card stock.

5. Open the cards and lay flat inside up. Drop 4 to 5 drops of different colors of craft paint on the cards. Carefully close the card and press lightly together. Now open and see what designs you have created on the inside. Let dry.

6. Fold cards shut again and with scissors, cut out your favorite shapes such as hearts, butterflies or circles. Make the shapes as large as the cards. Cut out half of the shape from the folded side of the card. Both sides of the shape will be exactly alike when you open it.

7. Punch a hole in the top middle 1/2-inch below the top edge. Cut three lengths of fishing line 12 inches long. Tie the three strings in the holes and then tie the other end to the hanger, one in the center, and one on the right and then the left. Cut three lengths of fishing line 18 inches long and tie them in the card holes. Then tie the other ends below the previous three on the hanger. These will hang longer. Hang on a door sill or wherever you wish in the house.
