You can fix bifold closet doors in a few minutes.
Bifold closet doors are often in need of repair because it takes several parts to make them work. The pivots, brackets and handles often break or wear out. You don't need to spend hours fixing these parts. Just remove and replace them; it makes all the difference in the world. Instructions
1. Lift up on the doors and slide the small pin hinge out of the bracket at the bottom of the door. Unscrew the bracket from the floor with a screwdriver and replace it with a new one, if this part is broken. This may also be the reason that the doors do not open. Set the hinge pin into one of the slots on the bracket to align the door straight after you replace the pin.
2. Remove the doors from the brackets and take out the metal rod in the corner of the door. This is called the bottom pivot. Just pull it out with your hands or a pair of pliers if it is stuck. If the pivot is broken or worn out, replace it with a new one. If the hole into which the part fits has become enlarged, fill it with wood putty. Allow the putty to dry and drill a new hole in the door. Slide the pivot back in the door.
3. Fix the top rollers and the top pivots in the same way if they are broken. These parts slide into the top of the bifold doors, the rollers on the corner nearest the middle of the closet, and the pivots on the outside corner of the doors. Pull the pivots or the rollers from the doors after removing the door from the hinge and bracket. Insert new parts in their place. Again, if the hole is enlarged, fill it with wood putty and let it dry, then drill the hole out again. I this does not work, replace the door itself.
4. Remove the handle on the door if it is broken by turning it counterclockwise. This unscrews the handle from the body of the door. Dab some epoxy glue onto the handle. Reattach it to the door by screwing it clockwise into place. Let the glue set to firmly secure the handle.
