The Best Way To Clean A Junk Room

There's always that one room in a home that holds all of the items that have no real location. Its often called a junk room and its hard to even know where to begin to clean and organize it. Through a step-by-step plan, you can clean and organize your junk room in a weekend. Does this Spark an idea?

Prepwork

Start by giving yourself a few hours to solely dedicate to the organization and cleaning of your junk room. Look around and pick the starting point. It is best to pick a spot that needs little cleaning and organizing. A quick result will keep you motivated to do more.

Organization

Clear out a big space in the middle of the room. Tidy up the small items and begin to separate items into categories. Put like items together. Once all items are sorted into categories begin to decide how best to organize them. Do they belong in the junk room or another room? Do you need to donate them to a charity or sell them in a garage sale? If they are items you want to keep, and they do not go in another room, begin to find homes for each set of items. The key is to store everything in boxes, containers or closets to make the clutter and junk "disappear." Take a break and go to a home improvement store to purchase organizational boxes if needed. Store the boxes and clutter in closets, under bedding or in decorative boxes that can be displayed in the open.

Finishing Touches

Dust any items left out in the open---do not forget any pictures or hanging items on the wall. Vacuum the carpet or clean hardwood floors with a broom. If the floor is tiled, wipe it clean with a wet mop. Do not forget to wipe down baseboards and chair rails. Use a mop or long handled duster to remove cobwebs and dust from ceilings, ceiling fans and crown molding.
