Organize A Bedroom When You Have Little Furniture

An uncluttered bedroom could reduce stress.

An estimated 47 million adults in the United States do not get the required sleep they need, according to a 2002 National Sleep Foundation poll. If you have a cluttered bedroom, it could be interfering with your sleep. Clutter can also increase stress levels. There are a variety of ways to organize your bedroom if you have few pieces of furniture. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Hang shelves. Shelving kits are designed for home improvement novices. In most cases, you'll only need a pencil, ruler and screwdriver. You can stash anything from books to stuffed animals, hats, all-weather scarves and picture frames on shelves.

2. Buy shoebox sized storage organizers for small items. Put photographs, pens, pencils, bookmarks, jewelry and other tiny knick-knacks in storage cases. Make labels for each box so you know what's in them. You can put the boxes under your bed, on shelves or in your closet.

3. Hang storage organizing racks in your closet. Some racks are designed to hold shoes, but you can store anything in them. You can use a second one for items like socks and undergarments if your clothes dresser is overflowing.

4. Store large garment boxes under your bed. Make room in your closet by stashing the off-season wardrobe here as well as spare blankets and pillows.

5. Place magazines in magazine file storage boxes. You can also squirrel away bills, photos and CDs here.

6. Hang hooks behind your bedroom door. Keep clothing off the floor by hanging it on a hook instead. You can also store purses, coats and schoolbags here.

7. Purge items you don't use. It can be hard to toss sentimental items, but set a time frame for yourself. If you haven't used something in, say, two years, throw it away. Or, rent a storage space, if you can afford it.
