For some people, clothes are everything. The bedroom is the place to store clothing, to get dresses and to emerge from looking fabulous. Sure sleeping happens too, but sleeping space is second in order of importance to clothing. If this is you, you can follow these steps to turn your room into a giant closet. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Remove the closet rails from your existing bedroom closet (especially if it is shallow) and install shelves or a drawer system instead. You can go as far as to turn your closet into a built-in dresser of sorts. Use these drawers for lingerie, accessories, shoes and sweaters. If building out your existing closet is not possible, then place your existing dressers inside your closet and use the upper rails for short items like blouses and skirts.
2. Locate wall in the bedroom that does not have window or doors. This will very likely be the inside wall of the bedroom. Measure the wall by length and width, then go to the hardware store or another store that makes closet systems like IKEA, and design a closet system to fit that wall. You should be able to create a closet system to fit your budget, whether you install one long closet rail, or an intricate system of rails and shelves.
3. Install a wooden rail with pegs along walls where built in it is not possible to add a closet unit. You can use a shaker rail and peg system or attach iron hooks to a simple strip of wood and install it into the wall studs to hang your favorite items.
4. If you wish to conceal the clothes a bit, you can purchase freestanding screens or install curtains in front of your closet space.
5. At this point, your room will be fully decorated with your clothes that you love, and perhaps pretty curtains and floor screens. You will still need to add a bed and makeup table or bed table. Choose a day bed or sleigh bed that resembles a couch so your bedroom looks more like a giant closet/ dressing room.
