Rolled towels
Linen closets can be grand for storing all your towels, sheets, tablecloths and linen napkins. But they can also turn into a nightmarish chasm if not kept properly. You can keep a linen closet organized with a few simple techniques that help the towels, sheets and tablecloths stay in place and everything neatly at your fingertips. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Insure ample space for everything. One of the biggest problems with linen closets is things being crammed willy-nilly in the hope they will stay in place. Before you even stock the closet, decide what goes where and how much room you’ll need for each item. For instance, five thick towels are going to need a lot more space than five thin sheets. Rather than cramming stuff in that does not fit, store the excess elsewhere.
2. Fold sheets into packets. Use one pillow case as a bag in which to store the rest of the sheet set. Fold the flat sheet, fitted sheet and any additional pillow case as you normally would and tuck neatly into one pillowcase. This keeps the sheet sets together and also allows you to cram them into tight spaces.
3. Roll towels. Fold a towel in half horizontally, then in half again vertically. Roll up the towel into a tight cylindrical shape. This allows you to stack, cram and mush towels into tight areas as well as easily access them.
4. Put the most used items where they can be reached the easiest. Towels are probably the most sought-after items, so keep them in the middle shelves where they can be easily accessed. Place fancy tablecloths or other seldom used items on the high shelf. This way you are not climbing and clawing through lots of items to get to the stuff you frequently need.
5. Use several baskets or bins to act as drawers. Place the containers on the shelf and pile them full of smaller items that usually fall all over or get lost amidst larger items. Your makeshift drawers are great for rolled up washcloths or napkins and any miscellaneous items you want to keep separate from the rest of the closet’s stock.
